As we approached the end of the school year, our chemistry department granted students the opportunity to research, produce and present on a topic of our choice.
I selected my topic by choosing a topic that I had genuine interest and curiousity for and I would be able to blend with some physics; why atoms obey the octet rule.
My research led me to discover that the underlying reasons for these emerging rules were more complex than I had initially anticipated. Instead of refocusing my topic I decided to use the power of simple analogies and building a strong foundation in order to make my project accessible to my peers. I found this mostly successful and was able to help further clarify any points of contention after presenting.
I hope this exploration gives you a new appreciation for the elegant logic hidden within the rules of chemistry. Please find the full presentation embedded below.
